Jessica Van Berkum MA, LMFT

Welcome! Kudos for taking this step in your healing journey. I’m Jessica, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I provide in-person therapy services in Sioux Falls, SD and telehealth therapy services for people across South Dakota and Minnesota. 

I am deeply passionate about working with individuals navigating relational issues, single adult women, and caregivers or families supporting loved ones diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s. As an LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC-affirming therapist, I provide a safe, inclusive space for all individuals.

My individual specialties include:

  • Life transitions, anxiety, and depression

  • Grief and loss (including the profound bond and loss of animals)

  • Chronic illness support

  • Parenting struggles and family-of-origin work

In my relational work, I support couples, marriages, non-traditional relationships, and families navigating challenges. Additionally, I hold specialized training in writing Emotional Support Animal (ESA) letters and love helping clients process animal attachment.

I firmly believe that while we all face struggles, each person holds the innate insight needed to cope and heal. My approach is client-centered and systemic, meaning I carefully consider how your unique relationships and environment impact your well-being. Therapy is hard work, but I am here to hold space for all of your emotions while bringing hope, honesty, and a touch of humor to our sessions to guide you forward.

Professional Supervision:

I highly enjoy providing supervision for pre-licensed mental health practitioners. I am Board Approved Supervisor in Minnesota (for LMFT, LPC, and LPCC tracks) as well as South Dakota (for LPC and LMFT tracks).
